GSWC Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration
The highlight of our 50th anniversary year was a catered event at Garrett's Restaurant in the Student Center Building, Washtenaw Community College on May 19, 2024. Many thanks to the 50th Anniversary Committee for pulling this event together. Members of the committee were Nancy Howard, Marcia McCrary, Connie Olson, Tim Salatin, Cyndy Steward, Janet Tarolli, Omer Jean Winborn, and Rodger Wolf. Special thanks to Herb Loner and Rob Steward for photography and Rob Steward for directional signs.

We enjoyed a barbeque buffet of pulled pork sliders, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, fruit and vegetable trays with dip, a selection of beverages, and a beautiful logo cake from Baker's Nook, Saline, Michigan, shown at right by Cyndy Steward. The round tables were decorated with white tablecloths, vases of flowers, and framed photographs of the founders with biographies on the back. A separate display area had photographs of cemetery readings and society summer picnics.

The business meeting began with the Annual Statement given by Nancy Howard, president, which was followed by election of officers. Certificates of recognition and tributes to our society were read by Nancy Howard. Janet Tarolli reviewed the history of our society using timelines and a handout she created. State Senator Sue Shink attended in person to present a framed certificate and gave brief remarks, which were much appreciated. An original four-act skit written and produced by Nancy Howard and Marcia McCrary was enthusiastically performed by the large troupe of GSWC players. Total attendance at the hybrid meeting was forty-eight -- thirty-nine in person and nine via Zoom.
