Purpose: The IE/UK SIG is a limited-topic community space designed to:

[a] support members as they work toward "jumping the genealogical pond" to the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland ("IE") and/or England, Scotland, & Wales ("UK") as well as Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man;
[b] allow members to collaborate as they work to find documentary evidence of their ancestors' lives in the "old country" while learning about major events affecting them; and
[c] encourage members to conribute their skills, knowledge and experience in an all-welcome environment.
  • Meeting place: Online via Zoom (not recorded). In-person Getherings are possible.
  • Meeting time: Monthly September through May, excluding December. Dates & times vary. Please see Ireland & UK SIG: All Upcoming. If none are listed, meetings are TBD.
For past meetings minutes, please see Ireland & UK SIG: All History

If you would like to to join the E-Mail list, or have any questions, please contact us at IrelandUKSIG@washtenawgenealogy.org

IE/UK SIG Meetings are free and open to the public, but you will get more out of your investment of time if you join the GSWC for access to "member-only" downloads and resources!

Because our IE/UK SIG covers a great deal of ground we've divided the tasks. Depending on your query you may receive a response from:

IE Co-Lead Abigaril R. Eynon, J.D., descends from two Irish Northfield Township pioneer families, holds a certificate in Genealogical Essentials from Boston University Metropolitan College (BUMC"), and speaks on wee topics of Irish interest. Abigail also acts as administrative Chair of the IE/UK SIG.

England Co-Lead position is open and presents a brilliant opportunity to invest a small amount of time to your passion and community!

Scotland Co-Lead Bill O'Reilly, our SIG founding father, is a co-owner of a genealogial research service and holds a certificate in Genealogical Essentials from BUMC. Bill's Scots roots and volunteer spirit keep him busy serving as Clan Commission Coordinator, Executive Committee Member & Clan Commissioner for Michigan of the International Clan MacAulay Association.

Wales Co-Lead Datha Howorth Peters attended Ann Arbor High School and was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. Although residing outside the State, Datha kindly stepped up and agreed to devote some time to helping members looking in Wales when she's not in the grasp of her first love—quilting.
