Growing Genealogy’s Future: Attracting and Engaging Younger People

After a short business meeting starting at 1:30pm, Sarah Day will present, via Zoom, “Growing Genealogy’s Future: Attracting and Engaging Younger People.” Then, following an intermission, we will break into two groups at the auditorium and two groups online. One group will discuss today's topic and the other will discuss genealogy research questions that have been submitted to GSWC ahead of time and researched by the GSWC team. Please submit your questions to info@washtenawgenealogy.org.

Program Details What can genealogical societies, libraries, and individuals do to engage the next generation in family history? As we look to preserve our past and continue the work of genealogy, we need more engagement from younger people. This presentation will explore what motivates children, teenagers, and young adults, barriers to involvement or interest, and strategies for engagement. It will provide activity ideas along with advice on how to design programs and outreach in ways that resonate with audiences of multiple ages.

No registration is required to attend in person. However, registration is required to attend this meeting on Zoom. Members will receive an email invitation to register about a week prior to the meeting. Non-members, please send a request to register to info@washtenawgenealogy.org by November 20. A handout will be available via Chat during the meeting and in members-only download for six months following the presentation.
