Program Details What if we left a workshop with our ancestors' stories already written? Not a full family history, just a few clear, meaningful paragraphs that bring real people to life. This 2-hour interactive workshop follows America's families across many backgrounds and life experiences, including those whose stories aren't recorded as often. How did our ancestors seek opportunity while facing barriers and hardship? How did they move through a changing country, sometimes by choice and sometimes under pressure, while navigating questions of rights, identity, and belonging?
Using a provided workbook, guided prompts, and small group discussion, we'll write short entries about our ancestors finding opportunity, facing exclusion, building community, and showing resilience. The workshop concludes with resources for preserving these stories on genealogy websites, giving future generations more than names and dates to connect with.
No registration is required to attend in person. However, registration is required to attend this meeting on Zoom. Members will receive an email invitation to register about a week prior to the meeting. Non-members, please send a request to register to info@washtenawgenealogy.org by September 25.
