Share a Question or Research Problem
Describe what you’re looking for and what you’ve already tried. Include names, dates, locations, and other details that will help fellow researchers understand your question. Here's an example:
Hermann Theodor Menard was born April 25, 1841, in Neu Stettin, Pomerania, Germany, an area now in Poland. How can I find its present-day location, identify the church his family attended, and explore what may have inspired Hermann to take his family to Buffalo, New York, in 1884?
Tell a Family Story
Share a glimpse of your research in about five minutes. Tell us what you were looking for, what you discovered, and whether anything surprised you. Here's an example:
My fourth cousin had a family portrait from about 1915 that I had never seen. Our grandmothers were sisters, so we could identify them, but we didn’t recognize some of the other people.
I also have a letter from my grandmother’s cousin, who appears in the photograph. Although the letter doesn’t mention the picture, it describes the event. Putting the photograph and letter together helped confirm who was pictured and the occasion for the portrait.
This brief description introduces the story. The photograph and letter could then be shared on screen during the presentation.
How It Works We’ll gather submissions in advance and invite members with relevant experience to help address questions during breakout sessions at GSWC meetings. Selected questions and stories will be scheduled and announced before each meeting. Because members will need time to research and prepare responses, we won’t take cold questions during the sessions.
Please provide:
- Your question or research problem, including relevant details and what you’ve already tried; or
- A brief description of your experience or family story, including what you researched and discovered.
- Whether you attend on Zoom or in person.
Submission deadline:
- We’d love to hear what you’re working on—and what you’ve discovered!
- We welcome questions and stories throughout the year.
- For consideration for the October 25 meeting, please submit your question or story no later than October 10, 2026.
