Overview:
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) can be formed with approval of the GSWC Board after interested members have fulfilled the following requirements - the group must have alignment with GSWC goals, must have a membership that includes the public, must have submitted a description of the group, the objectives of the group, the frequency of the meetings, the location/venue of the meetings, a statement of compliance with GSWC bylaws and policies, and identifies a proposed leader that must be appointed by the GSWC President (and must be a GSWC member).

If you can fulfill the requirements for forming a Special Interest Group and would like to see about getting it started, please contact:

History of GSWC SIGs:
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have been a part of the Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County for years, depending on our membership interest in certain areas of research.  The following SIGs have existed within our Society:

1980 - 1981:  Informal study groups met to research German, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York-New England genealogy.

1983:  Interest groups were formed for both German reasearch and Computers.

1984:  Interest groups met for Computers as well as to research German, Ohio River Valley, and British genealogy.

2017:  A new DNA SIG was formed (dissolved in January 2025).

2020:  A new German SIG was formed (dissolved in May 2025).

2022:  A new Ireland-United Kingdom SIG was formed (dissolved in May 2025).
