Allmendinger Cemetery (Did it exist?) (City of Ann Arbor) Jackson Road at Interstate I-94 Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan Land Economic Study No 9: Interstate 94 - Ann Arbor Area - Interchange Benefits to Potential Commercial Land, Michigan State Highway Department, John C. Mackie, Commissioner, Right of Way Division, Appraisal Section. Right of Way Research Project in Cooperation with United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of Public Roads, June 1961.
The existence of Allmendinger Cemetery cannot be confirmed. Upon review of the Land Economic Study No 9, I realized that the cemetery on the south side of Jackson Road referred to in the report must be Bethlehem Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in Ann Arbor. The six-acre Allmendinger parcel was on the north side of Jackson Road next to the on-ramp to eastbound I-94. After a corner of the parcel was purchased for the proposed interchange, the owner sold the rest of the land and it was immediately annexed to the City of Ann Arbor. Zoning was approved for construction of a Holiday Inn.
Allmendinger Cemetery appears in GSWC's Directory of Cemeteries, 2nd ed revised. --Janet Tarolli, GSWC |
